FIRST ANNUAL HILLCREST-BEVERLY FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS

An audience of more than 250 people stepped back to 1959 for a recent Sunday afternoon film event that also featured an elegant display of luxury beds and bedding in the lobby of the Tennessee Theatre.

Marquee 2007 was the first annual fundraising event for the Hillcrest-Beverly Foundation and its Jump on the Bed Campaign. The afternoon featured live and silent auctions with items such as season tickets to UT football games. Bella Sera Luxury Linens of Knoxville won a bed-decorating contest after a vote from attendees. The program topped off with a screening of the 1959 classic film “Pillow Talk.”

The event raised approximately $17,000. All the funds will be used to buy state-of-the-art beds for residents at all four Hillcrest HealthCare facilities in Knox County.

“It makes us feel so good to raise money for this worthy cause,” said Carolyn Jensen, director of the Hillcrest- Beverly Foundation. “Nothing brings more happiness to a Hillcrest resident than to have one of these wonderful beds.”

Jensen also said Hillcrest staff is already preparing for next year’s event and some important projects that will benefit from the funds.

“The Hillcrest-Beverly Foundation is focused on funding the immediate needs of our facilities, but we’re also looking at new and innovative approaches to elder care that can better serve the needs of our population in the future,” she said.
